A Night With Matthew Williamson

On Tuesday 2nd November, myself and two of my friends ventured to the V&A Museum in South Kensington to spend an evening with Mattthew Williamson. In honour of his new book, Matthew gave a sit down interview/talk with Colin McDowell who is the Sunday Times Fashion writer.
I don't know about you, but first things first, I think Matthew Williamson is beautiful! He is always so impeccably dressed and groomed, there is just something about him that I find so attractive! Working and being interested in fashion means that I always find it exciting to hear about the creative process from high fashion designers, I previously have been to talks at the V & A with Mary Quant and Giles Deacon - they are always so interesting and its well worth signing up on the V & A website to get alerts when these events happen as they always sell out really quickly.
Matthew gave roughly an hours interview, talking about his early beginnings, his time at St Martins, time spent in India gathering inspirations and materials, his first meeting with Plum Sykes at Vogue...etc. He has a way of talking that I think the audience could have easily listened to him for another hour at the least. He was kind enough to meet everyone after and sign copies of his book - he is such a gentleman. I find his use of colour and print so interesting - kind of inspiring as well as I am often not very adventurous with wearing bold colours - and the book is just beautiful and captures his creative expression perfectly.

Chanel Nails

I love anything remotely connected with Chanel and those special double C's!
When I saw these nail decals I couldn't wait to get them on my talons and here is the result!
I usually hate photographing my hands/nails as I am a serial nail/skin biter and they are in a bit of a state, but I loved this look so much I had to show you!

New Topshop Heavy Duty Collecton & Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

Good Evening Everyone!
How are you?
I have not blogged for a whole week! I have literally been super super busy at work everyday this week, and even working Saturdays recently. By the time I get home its too dark to take any decent pictures so I have had to wait until today to do this post, thank goodness the sun was shining most of the day! The new capsule collection for Topshop Make Up was released on October 1st, and there were two items that caught my eye - the Kohl Dust and the Lip Marker.

The Kohl Dust is really just what it says on the tin - and comes with a sponge type applicator in the lid. I have been using this as an eye liner for my top lid. Its a little bit tricky to apply as its powder, and is best for thicker line. Also I would suggest you use it before you even apply your foundation as every time I have used it, tiny sprinkles of the dust fall down to the top of my cheeks, and can't be removed that easily without leaving a line of black in their wake.

The Lip Marker appealed to me as its a gorgeous berry colour, and looked so easy to apply as it is like a felt tip marker (it also smells lovely). You definitely need to line your lips first, as the application is actually not as easy as I thought it would be. And its a stain - so you need to make sure you apply it correctly otherwise its hard to remove. It does last the day, but needs to be topped up 2/3 times especially after eating and drinking. I didn't find it drying either. It actually dries darker on your lips as well, so expect a darker colour that what you get when you first apply it! In my swatch below I have compared it to the Topshop Lipstick Daredevil.

There were a few lovely looking items that I didn't purchase as I am on a strict budget this month, you can see them in the photos below...

The other thing I bought last week was a recommendation from a friend, the Double Wear Foundation from Estee Lauder. I was told this gives great coverage, so of course me with my blemishes rushed off to House of Fraser first chance I got where the most lovely girl matched me up and gave me a little make over. She also gave me lots of tips on dealing with blemishes, including using rose water and a special type of seed. I have been using this foundation all week and enjoying it so far. It does give good coverage, one of the best I've found. I'm still not sure its perfect though. I also am slightly annoyed that it does not come with a pump, as you can see in the photo below, so when I am pouring it out I sometimes use too much, which winds me up as its expensive enough without wasting it! I think it was about £25 maybe less. She recommended I try Cover FX foundation next time I was looking for a new one, as this is designed specially for people with problem skin. In fact I purchased that foundation today, and will do a post ASAP once I have used it! Do you guys have any other foundation recommendations?

My Top 4 Autumn Staples

Even though I tend to buy lots of clothes *I can't help it a) I'm a girl and b) I work in fashion!* I always find that season by season there are a few key things that are absoltely staple in my wardrobe that I wear the whole time, that go with every outfit, that I basically use everyday. Other things come and go but these will last me without fail, and I'm starting to find that I use them year after year as well. I never was really into the 'investment' buy, as mostly I never had the money to spend anyway, but as I have been working for a few years now I've started to realise that spending that little bit more on things can actually pay off as the quality means that the pieces will last a long time if you take care of them properly. So I thought I would show you the pieces that I will be wearing week after week this Autumn Winter.

This season I have splurged on something I have wanted since February - when I saw the Burberry models strutting their stuff down the runway in all manner of shearling and aviator pieces. I remember posting on my Facebook a letter to Santa requesting a Burberry aviator jacket well in advance. *Sadly* Santa told me it probably wouldn't be possible, especially when he found out they were over £2k a pop! I knew the high street would be swarming with their own interpretations, so I took my time and did a lot of research. I wasn't sure whether to opt for a cheaper synthetic version, or splash out on a leather or sheepskin one. I decided that as I had been lusting over this piece for well over 6 months and it was the only thing that I really wanted, I would splash, and when I saw my jacket in Topshop about a month ago, it truly was love at first sight (even if my credit card silently squealed as I handed it over to the cashier). Its a sheepskin beauty with a dark/grey collar and it truly makes me happy just seeing it hanging up in my wardrobe (its the little things in life).

My beloved Kurt Geiger biker boots were a splurge last autumn, I saw them featured in an editorial in Glamour magazine, and they are so comfortable, and look equally good with jeans and a tee, or to toughen up a girly dress. I honestly wouldn't be without them now, have had to get them reheeled and the soles stuck down a few times because I wear them so much!
Photobucket
My number 1 love of my wardrobe is my All Saints leather jacket. This baby has been worn almost every day of my life since we met that fateful day in All Saints Westfield in the summer of 2009. My darling coat gets softer and softer every month and truly goes with any and every outfit I wear. The lining in the sleeves has started to fall apart so I need to give some much needed TLC!
Photobucket
My bag of AW (probably subject to change here and there if I am honest) is my Coco bag by Alexander Wang. Depsite being a little bit of a weighty lady (those studs are NOT light!) she does the business no problem, and perfectly compliments my boots and jackets. I love her!!

With these pieces I really do structure all my outfits around them as they go with my girly dresses, and also with leggins/jeans and tees...basically all I wear!
Do you have any staples that last you season to season?

A Little Superdrug Spree

Happy Sunday lovelies!
On Friday night I stopped off in Oxford Street on my way home to get my Mummy a birthday pressie, and picked up a few things in Le Superdrug along the way!
Photobucket
I purchased two nail varnishes - I went to a wedding on Saturday and wanted to paint my nails and hadn't got any of my varnishes with me so decided to buy two of the cheapest ones I could find - so I went for this grey one (can't remember what concession it was from) but it was about £1.50 and then I spotted a line called Make Up Academy where everything was £1 and decided to pick up this pink colour. I wore the grey in the end - my nails are awful - short and stubby as I bite them, so nail colour looks pretty bad on me most of the time, but this turned up ok although it was a bit watery on application. I jazzed them up with some of the nail stickers and was quite happy with the result!

Last but not least I picked up two appealing kits from the Scarlett and Crimson line, which has been created by Ruby and Millie for a younger target group - but I love anything with fun packaging like this so I couldn't resist. I bought some blotting tissue paper (for those oily T-Zone days) and an eye lash curling device (haven't used one for years) that also came with an eye brightening pencil. Kitsch!

And that was it, a few little treats to cheer me up!

Could This Be A Small Miracle? Apple Cider Vinegar for Acne

Hello any fellow acne/break out sufferers!
And hello any non-acne sufferers as well :)

Today I am going to writing about a wonderful discovery to help calm down any sore, itchy, generally nasty break outs and problem areas. I know how horrible it is to suffer from acne, as I have had bad skin since I turned 13. It can be so hard to deal with, and so embarassing. My skin got so much better when I went on the pill, but I came off it about a year ago and since then its gradually got worse and worse. I was complaining about my skin on twitter when one of my lovely twitter friends Carly @millmo7 recommended I try using a solution of Apple Cider Vinegar and water (50/50) as a toner on my skin, after cleansing. I had never even heard of apple cider vinegar, but I duly trotted off to Sainsbury's and found a bottle! I have been using it most nights on my skin, and despite the smell of vinegar on my face, I am full of praise for this! From the first night I used it my skin calmed down straight away, and I did have very bad breakouts around my chin/mouth area and also on my cheeks (very sad and bad times). When my skin started to get better I stopped using it, but my skin got worse when I stopped so I have started using it again tonight and it has already calmed down as I am writing this. My Mum even commented tonight that it looked better. By no means expect all your spots to disappear if you try this, but it really has helped mine a lot by just calming my breakouts down and making them less painful and easier to cover up. This is one home remedy that I will be recommending to everyone!

Do you have any tips on how to deal with acne/break outs?
